The cell is the basic unit of all living things.

There are two types of cell - prokaryotic (bacterial cells) and eukaryotic (plant, animals, fungi and protoctists).

All cells contain a fluid medium called cytoplasm enclosed in a phospholipid plasma membrane.

phospholipid: A lipid in which one fatty acid is replaced by a phosphate group, giving a hydrophilic head and hydrophobic tails.
eukaryotic cell: A cell that has a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles.
