  1. Poles of a magnetThe poles of a magnet are the places where the magnetic forces are strongest.
  2. Magnetic fieldsThe magnetic field is the region around a magnet where a force acts on another magnet or on a magnetic material.
  3. ElectromagnetismWhen a current flows through a wire, a magnetic field is produced around the wire.
  4. Fleming's left-hand rule (HT only)When a conductor carrying a current is placed in a magnetic field, the magnet producing the field and the conductor exert a force on each other.
  5. Electric motors (HT only)A coil of wire carrying a current in a magnetic field tends to rotate.
  6. Loudspeakers (physics only) (HT only)Loudspeakers and headphones use the motor effect to convert variations in current in electrical circuits into the pressure variations in sound waves.
  7. Induced potential (HT only)If a wire moves through a magnetic field so that it cuts the field lines, or if the magnetic field around a wire changes, a potential difference is…
  8. Uses of the generator effect (HT only)The generator effect is used to make electricity.
  9. Microphones (HT only)A microphone uses the generator effect to turn sound into an electrical signal.
  10. Transformers (HT only)A basic transformer has a primary coil and a secondary coil wound on an iron core.
