Diodes
A diode only allows current to flow through it in one direction This property is important in electronic circuits as some components are affected by the direction of the current. The LED or light-emitting diode emits light of a specific wavelength by transferring electrical energy directly to light energy. They use very little energy are usually used as indicators to show when a circuit is live.

Key terms in this lesson
- energy
- The capacity of a system to do work.
- potential difference
- The work done, or energy transferred, per unit charge as charge moves between two points in a circuit.
- resistance
- The ratio of the potential difference across a component to the current through it.
- wavelength
- The minimum distance between two points on a wave that are in phase, such as from one peak to the next.
