Phospholipids contain the elements carbon hydrogen, oxygen and phosphorus.
Negatively charged inorganic phosphate ions PO43- are found dissolved in the cytoplasm of cells.
Phospholipids are similar to lipids except that one of the fatty acids is replaced by a phosphate group.
