Physical Properties of Ionic Compounds
Ionic compounds have high melting temperatures. In the giant lattice the combined electrostatic forces of attraction are large.
brittle - If stress is applied the layers slide over each other and ions of the same charge come into contact and repel one another.
Electrical Conductivity - conduct electricity when molten or in solution as ions can move.
