Halogenoalkanes are named using a prefix for the halogen: fluoro-, chloro-, bromo- or iodo-, added to the name of the parent alkane.
A number shows which carbon the halogen is on. The chain is numbered to give the lowest numbers. For example, CH3CH2CH2Br is 1-bromopropane and CH3CHBrCH3 is 2-bromopropane.
