A domain is the highest taxonomic rank.
There are three domains: Bacteria, Archaea and Eukarya.
Bacteria are single-celled prokaryotes with no membrane-bound organelles, 70S ribosomes, murein (peptidoglycan) cell walls and a single loop of DNA with no histones.
