Exam Question 2
Question
The work function of a metal is 2.30 eV.
(a) State what is meant by the work function. (1)
(b) Calculate the threshold frequency for this metal. (3)
(c) Light of frequency 4.00 × 1014 Hz is shone on the metal. Explain why no electrons are emitted, even when the light is made very bright. (2)
(d) Light of frequency 7.50 × 1014 Hz is now used. Calculate the maximum kinetic energy of the emitted electrons. (2)
