Structural Isomers
Structural isomers of alkanes have the same molecular formula but different arrangements of the carbon chain. For alkanes these are chain isomers.
Methane, ethane and propane have no isomers. Butane, C4H10, has two: butane and 2-methylpropane.
Pentane, C5H12, has three: pentane, 2-methylbutane and 2,2-dimethylpropane. Hexane, C6H14, has five.
