Compounds containing the C=C double bond can be polymerised. Polymers are large molecules formed from hundreds to thousands of repeat units. Alkenes undergo addition polymerisation to form long saturated high molecular mass chains with no double bonds.Industrial polymerisation is carried out at high temperatures and pressures using catalysts.
