Benzene Structure
Benzene is less reactive than alkenes such as cyclohexene. Benzene does not decolourise bromine water or take part in electrophilic addition reactions. Kekule proposed two resonating structures. The enthalpy of hydrogenation of benzene is more endothermic than expected, suggesting that the actual structure of benzene is more stable than the Kekule structure.
