Visible light is one group of electromagnetic waves, so it has all the properties of the family. It is a transverse wave, it transfers energy from a source to an absorber, and it can travel through a vacuum.
This is how sunlight reaches the Earth across space. In a vacuum, light travels at 3.0 × 108 m/s, the same speed as every other EM wave.
White light is a mixture of colours. Each colour has a different wavelength, with red the longest and violet the shortest. A glass prism can split white light into these colours.
