Every magnet has two ends called poles. One is the north pole and the other is the south pole. The forces between magnets are strongest at the poles. If you bring two magnets close together, the poles either pull towards each other or push apart.
Unlike poles attract. A north pole and a south pole pull towards each other. Like poles repel. Two north poles push apart and two south poles push apart.
Magnetic forces act without the magnets touching. The force gets weaker as the magnets are moved further apart, and the force on each magnet is equal in size to the force on the other one.
