Work Done and Energy
Work done is the force multiplied by the distance moved in the direction of the force, W = Fx. It is measured in joules, where 1 J = 1 N m.
Work done is energy transferred. When you push a crate along a floor at steady speed, the work done against friction is transferred to the surroundings as heat. When you lift an object at steady speed, the work done against gravity is stored as gravitational potential energy.
